Congratulations Burlington Central - 2018 Halton Chess Champions!!!
Chess Ladder Rules
PURPOSE OF THE LADDER To encourage friendly competitions between grade 7 band 8 students. Ladder matches are also used as main (but not sole) criteria for selecting the Central Elementary Chess team.
JOINING THE LADDER Any grade seven or eight wishing to participate on the ladder must speak to Mr. Lang first and will be put at the bottom of the ladder.
CHALLENGE PROCEDURE A challenger may challenge up to six positions on the ladder at any time. The challenger contacts the challengee. The challengee is obligated to propose a reasonable time and date when available within the next 2 days.
MATCH RESULTS A successful challenger takes the challengee's position on the ladder and the challengee moves down one position.
DEFAULTS AND FORFEITS A challengee who refuses to accept a challenge within a period of 2 days or fails to appear for match without explanation acceptable to the challenger defaults, and forfeits the match with the challengee dropping one position below the challenger.
DISPUTES OVER A MATCH Any player may protest to Mr. Lang regarding a game that was unable to be scheduled, scheduled but not played, or played. Mr. Lang will arbitrate the dispute and make a decision such as ordering a game or rematch, voiding a game, or awarding a default.
INACTIVE PLAYERS Players who know they will be unable to accept future challenges should notify Mr. Lang of their inactive status. Their name will be flipped over on the ladder and will not count for determining places up for challenges. Any inactive player in the top 6 would automatically drop to number seven in order to allow others to advance. Inactive players must notify Mr. Lang before resuming active status. All players must play at least one match over two weeks or Mr. Lang will place them at the bottom the ladder. After three weeks of inactivity they will be removed from the ladder. If the player wishes to be reinstated then they will be placed at the bottom of the ladder.
